Rewards + Recognition Program

The Institute's overall Recognition Program serves to highlight the excellence that exists in all areas and job functions across the Institute. Recognition is most effective when it takes place on a regular basis and in a variety of ways. This program is represented by three different opportunities for special recognition at various times throughout the year. The MIT Excellence Award is administered at the Institute level on an annual basis. Infinite Mile Awards are administered at the School level, annually or semi-annually, and are awarded to teams and individuals for significant accomplishments in their department, labs, or centers or in other DLCs with which they collaborate. Finally, Appreciation Awards are informal, on-the-spot, day-to-day recognition awards. These awards are administered and delivered at the DLC level. They may come in the form of thank-you notes, candy, gift cards, movie tickets, etc.

The program is designed to provide opportunities for all members of the community to recognize and reward members of MIT's administrative staff, support staff, service staff and sponsored research staff. When appropriate a strong case for others will be considered. It also is meant to supplement, rather than replace, existing reward mechanisms, and is separate and distinct from base pay.
