Megan J. Smith

Megan J. Smith is an award-winning entrepreneur, engineer, and tech evangelist. Served as the third U.S. chief technology officer (U.S. CTO) and Assistant to the President from 2014-2017 - working on issues from AI, data science and open source, to inclusive economic growth, entrepreneurship & workforce development, structural inequalities, image of stem, criminal justice reform, and government tech innovation capacity. Smith spent eleven years as vice president at Google leading new business development, led acquisitions of Google Earth, Maps, Picasa, was General Manager of Google dot org, later co-created WomenTechmakers, SolveforX. PlanetOut CEO, early smartphones at General Magic, Apple Japan, co-founder of the Malala Fund and UN Solutions Summit, advisor SVC2UK/Grow, and WEF Tech Pioneer.

Member, National Academy of Engineering who continues work on tech forward innovation, at shift7 and through service on many boards including MIT, LA28 Olympics, Algorithmic Justice League, Earth Conservation Corp, and Vital Voices.
