There are many ways to study at SA+P, from architecture and urban planning to real estate, media arts and sciences, and art, culture, and technology. Programs remain distinct while opening opportunities to work across fields, encounter different forms of knowledge, and develop new approaches to practice.
What Can I Study?
Architecture & Design
Architecture and design emphasize the interconnected relationship between building technology, computation, and the history, theory, and criticism of architecture, art, and design. Undergraduate and graduate study connect diverse modes of thinking and making.
Urban Studies & Planning
DUSP combines rigorous academic study and discovery with active engagement in the practice of place-making. Its programs address pressing urban and environmental problems through planning and urban science.
Real Estate
The Center for Real Estate approaches an increasingly interdisciplinary, data-driven, and performance-measured industry through finance and economics; design, development, and policy; and sustainability and technology.
Media Arts & Sciences
The Program in Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab brings together master’s and PhD students from backgrounds spanning computer science, engineering, architecture, neuroscience, music, and design. Courses explore human-computer interaction, communications, learning, design, and entrepreneurship.
Art, Culture & Technology
ACT fosters a rigorous, research-based and transdisciplinary approach to art practice. Its graduate program centers artistic practice, advanced visual studies, and experimentation, opening relationships across fields throughout MIT.
